Nia T. Hill is an award-winning writer, producer, and director whose work spans theater, film, television, music, and opera. Renowned for her incisive voice and interdisciplinary vision, Hill crafts stories that center cultural identity, spiritual inquiry, and social transformation. Her work consistently defies convention—merging emotional depth with intellectual rigor to create experiences that resonate across mediums and generations.

Hill’s early contributions to the theatrical canon include work on seminal productions such as Jelly’s Last Jam, The Colored Museum, Sophisticated Ladies, and Dreamgirls. She went on to produce, finance, and tour I Know I’ve Been Changed, the first musical by Tyler Perry, establishing herself as a key figure in the emergence of faith-centered commercial theater.

She co-founded Strange Fruit Media where she oversaw the creation and writing of original content, including executive producing the acclaimed television singing competition series, Sunday Best, for which she won an NAACP IMAGE AWARD, as well as a GRAMMY AWARD for co-writing her first hit song, Jesus, performed by Le’Andria Johnson.

In cinema, Hill wrote and directed Colored My Mind, a searing mixed media film that explores the lived experiences of five African American mothers raising children with autism starring Blair Underwood and Nicole Ari Parker. The film won “Best Filmmaker” at the Cannes AMPAV Film Festival and was later screened at the White House.

In 2013, Hill became creative director for ten-time Grammy winner and musical icon, Chaka Khan, leading the artist’s studio projects and producing concerts with major philharmonic orchestras around the world. Her curatorial acumen also shaped One Night Only, a signature television series she wrote and created, featuring EGOT winner Jennifer Hudson and Tony Award-winning choreographer George Faison.

Most recently, Hill completed the libretto for an immersive operatic ballet called Nina Simone Presents: C’est Tout Absurde, A Coloured Ballet, set to premiere in Paris.

Now, with the 2026 launch of The ONE DROP Experience (ODX), Hill reimagines experiential theatre with a contemporary global vision. ODX Studios produces exclusive, short-run cinematic experiences in iconic theatrical venues.

Across every discipline she engages, Nia T. Hill’s writing is bold, lyrical, and deeply human. Whether writing libretti, scripting for stage, screen, or song, her work invites audiences to feel, question, and imagine.
